Jessica Alba covers Entertainment Weekly’s Summer Must List issue

1313-1314-EWcvr-MustIt’s summertime, when the pop-culture mercury starts to boil. Three months of big-name blockbusters, new TV, music festivals, and more await us, which is why we’ve gone ahead and stuffed all the season’s best stuff into this week’s Summer Must List issue.

And who better to heat up its cover than Jessica Alba, the midriff-baring star of Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Alba returns as lasso-swinging stripper Nancy Callahan in the hyper-violent, hyper-sexy, hyper-everything sequel to 2005′s live-action comic book, co-directed once more by Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller. But this time, Alba’s character has a little more bite. “She was more naive in the first film. Ignorance was bliss,” Alba says. “In this one there’s no bliss and no ignorance. I wanted her to transition from being a victim to being someone who’s in control of her own story.”

Now a mother of two and president of the multimillion-dollar Honest Company, Alba’s outlook on her place in Hollywood as an actress and sex symbol has also changed in the years since the first Sin City. “I was such a deer in the headlights when I did the first one,” she says. “I was so green and just trying to take it all in. I have a fearlessness now that I didn’t before.” At Entertainment Weekly’s photo shoot in Malibu, she even took some time to answer some hard-hitting (and not so hard-hitting) questions. It’s finally here….

First Look: Jessica Alba In ‘Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’

frank-millers-sin-city-a-dame-to-kill-for-ew-skip-cropFinally…… it is here the first look of Jessica Alba as Nancy in Sin City: A Dame To Kill For’ courtesy of Entertainment Weekly via Indiewire.com.

Yep, “Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For” is the absurd mouthful that is the new title for “Sin City: Dame To Kill For,” reminding you just who exactly penned the pulpy tales that will continue in Robert Rodriguez‘s sequel. Originally slated to drop last year, the ever-busy director pushed things back to give himself more breathing room to get it done, but with the movie coming this summer we’re about to see a lot more.

So from the pages of EW comes the first looks at Nancy (Jessica Alba), Marv (Mickey Rourke) and Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) in the film. They show that yes, this will still be sex and violence fuelled fare, which is exactly what it’s supposed to be. And while some of the film is based on Miller’s work, it will also include some new stories too, with Nancy going from pole dancer to ass kicker.

“You see a little girl in that first film. By the end of this, she’s the avenging angel,” Rodriguez says, with Miller adding: “She is sick of being treated—as she puts it—‘as a piece of ass.’”

Co-starring Josh Brolin, Eva Green, Juno Temple, Jaime King, Rosario Dawson, Christopher Meloni, Jeremy Piven, Ray Liotta, Dennis Haysbert, and Stacy Keach, the ‘Dame’ is coming on August 22nd. – IndieWire

The Weinstein Co.’s Dimension Films has moved Sin City: A Dame To Kill For from an Oct, 4, 2013, release to nearly a year later — on Aug. 22, 2014.

Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller are co-directing the movie, which features a star-studded cast including returning castmembers Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Mickey Rourke and Bruce Willis and newcomers Eva Green, Josh Brolin, Jamie Chung and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

The pic currently has the new date to itself. Earlier in the month Guardians of the Galaxy, Dracula and The Expendables 3 are set to hit theaters.

It’s been more than eight years since Sin City, based on Miller’s comic series, opened in theaters. The 2005 film has grossed $158.7 million worldwide to date.

his is the second project based on the work of Miller to be pushed back this year. Just one month ago, 300: Rise of an Empire was postponed from its August 2013 release date to March 7, 2014.

Rodriguez has also helmed another project that is set for release: Machete Kills, a follow-up to 2010’s Machete, which is slated for a Sept. 13 release. – The Hollywood Reporter

Collider.com interviews Jessica Alba discussing Sin City 2 and more

Collider.com sat down with Jessica Alba recently during the Escape from Planet Earth press junket to discuss the 3D flick, A.C.O.D., and more importantly Sin City 2!. CLICK HERE to read the full interview.

Sin City 2 is one of these projects that everyone talked about for years, that honestly I just lost faith that it was going to happen and then all of the sudden it did.

Alba: Out of nowhere right?

Out of nowhere and he has everybody in Hollywood in the movie, like everyone.  Talk a little bit about when you first heard that it was coming back and that you were going to be a part of it.

Alba: I think like you every six months to a year it was like “We’re going to do it, when’s the next one coming?  Oh yeah, we’re going to do it.  We’re going to do it.  We’re going to do it.” And then at a certain point it was just like OK, I just didn’t believe it.  It was like “We’re going to start in the summer, we’re going to start in the fall” but then when we actually got the start date and I was there on the set it was like a dream.  I was like, “Am I really here?  Are we really here?  OK, just making sure.” And Jamie [Chung] filmed the day before me and I was like “Are we really doing this?” So yeah, it was surreal and I ran into Rosario [Dawson] and for all of us it’s really cool.  I got to work with Bruce [Willis] and with Mickey [Rourke] and it’s probably one of the best times of my life working on the second.  The first was like open the doors and this has been, certainly as an artist, the best experience.

What’s interesting is that everyone I’ve spoken to that’s been working on it has been telling me that its literally all green screen, that everyone is filming their stuff and then he’s going to put it all together in post.

Alba: That’s how the first on was.

It seems even more extreme on this one, but maybe I’m not hearing it right.

Alba: It’s exactly the same as the first one.  I got to work with Mickey this time, which I didn’t work with him the first time, even though we were in scenes together, I did my scenes with Robert, so that was nice, to be able to work with Mickey because I’ve always been a huge fan of his.

Talk a little bit about what the process is like working for Robert when you’re on green screen like that.  How much is he showing you the pre-vis or the art work to show you what it’s going to look like or is it a lot of imagination going on?

Alba: Well this is- mine is an original story so there wasn’t a lot to base it off of, but Frank [Miller] has been drawing.  So it’s just crazy.  It was neat to see their process, Robert and Frank’s, and their collaboration and what they inspire from each other and get out of each other and what they’re creating.  It’s really like the 2.0 version of Sin City and it’s pretty amazing.

I’m going to run out of time with so I do want to ask you what you are thinking about for the rest of the year in terms of roles.  Obviously we could talk about Machete Kills, or Machete Kills Again in Space, but I am curious what you’re thinking about for the future is there a certain role that you’re looking after or going for?  What’s percolating?

Alba: A couple of things.  I’m about to go on a book tour, I just wrote a book and its coming out in march so that’s the next thing that I’m thinking about and I have a company that I started about a year ago, so my company, you know, every day I’m the president.  So that’s exciting and that’s something so completely different from what goes on in entertainment.  I’m looking to do some completely different things more as a producer and creator as some things that I have percolating.  We’ll see.  I’m really looking forward to Sin City 2: A Dame to Kill For to come out.  It’s going to be rad.

Rosario Dawson: ‘Sin City’ Sequel Starts Shooting In November

Rosario Dawson very recently confirmed her involvement in “Sin City: A Dame to Kill For.” Now, she’s revealing a start date: this coming November.  Via MTV’s Splash Page:

“I’m not sure if I’m supposed to say that, but I’m going to say November, I’m going to be honest and put it out there,” the actress, who stars in the “Sin City” films as Gail, told MTV News on the red carpet for “Ten Years,” her new Channing Tatum-starring rom-com. “It’s very soon. Very excited.”

Though Dawson has yet to read a script for the “Sin City” sequel, she’s already well acquainted with the graphic novel that “A Dame to Kill For” is based on.

“It’s sort of a prequel to the ‘Sin City’ we’ve already watched, so you’ll understand the references we were making in that one,” she said. “The new face thing, all of that interesting stuff.”

It’s not Gail’s face that gets reworked in the comics — that honor goes to Dwight McCarthy, the good-intentioned photographer played by Clive Owen in the first “Sin City” film — but Gail might be getting some kind of makeover anyway.

“You might have to figure out which one’s me at some point,” she teased. “We’re going to play with that.”
