Jessica Alba Lined Up to Star in ‘Weightless’

Myriad Pictures is preselling the movie, which is written by Milo Addica and will mark the Oscar-nominated scribe’s big-screen directorial debut.

BERLIN — Jessica Alba is in final negotiations to star in Weightless, an original screenplay from Oscar-nominated writer Milo Addica (Monster’s Ball) that will mark the scribe’s first outing in the director’s chair.

Myriad Pictures is shopping presales to buyers on the project, which will see Alba play the lead role.

Set in the near future, the movie details the story of a female astronaut (Alba) who winds up in a complicated love affair with the brother of a woman who died in a motorcycle accident she caused but didn’t tell anyone about for fear of jeopardizing her place on a space flight.

Myriad’s Kirk D’Amico will produce with Steve Norris, alongside the U.K.’s Apollo Productions and its partners, Pinewood Studios and VFX powerhouse Double Negative.

Addica is repped by Oren Segal of MPE (Management Production Entertainment), Joanne Wiles and Kevin Crotty of ICM Partners and attorney Karl Austen. – THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER

Hopefully everything will fall into place.

Blogger Kelly Oxford will be a TV character – thanks to Jessica Alba

Calgary blogger and Twitter queen Kelly Oxford, 33, has a lot going on these days. The mother of three (Salinger, 9; Henry, 7; and Beatrix, 2) has just signed a deal with HarperCollins to write a memoir, and has a sitcom in development with CBS which Jessica Alba is co-executive producing. Still, the Edmonton-born stay-at-home mom manages to regularly post her snarky, straight-up observational Tweets to her more than 100,000 followers – Howard Stern, Jimmy Kimmel and Roger Ebert among them.

How did the TV show Mother of All Something come about?

My friend Jhoni Marchinko (Emmy award-winning writer, producer) and I would talk on the phone, and the more we talked, the more she told me I should develop some of what I was living as a young mother into a spec pilot, as a writing sample, to try to get an agent. Within a week of finishing writing the script, [Hollywood agency] WME called about representing me. I told them I had the sample, gave it to them and they said it was saleable.

How did Jessica Alba get involved?

Jessica followed me on Twitter, she asked me for my number, we started to talk. She was interested in working together because she identified with my style of writing, my voice as a mother. She loved the pilot and offered to help and support my work in any way. We became friends really quickly.

Jessica Alba to star in Little Fockers??

Jessica is in talks to star in yet another movie, which will start filming soon. Read the article below.

Jessica Alba is becoming a Focker.

The actress is in negotiations to join the Ben Stiller-Robert DeNiro comedy “Little Fockers.” She’d play the role of an attractive pharmaceutical rep whose looks wreak havoc on male characters in the story.

Paul Weitz is directing the third installment in the Universal and Tribeca Productions franchise. Universal is banking heavily on “Fockers,” one of the studio’s few go-to franchises and an important one given its shaky summer. Production is set to begin in the next few months, with a 2010 release date more than likely.

The picture is expect to pick up where 2004’s “Meet the Fockers” left off, with Stiller’s Gaylord Focker and Teri Polo’s Pamela Byrnes having a child (or children — reports abound that they could be having twins). John Hamburg penned the latest version of the script.

Even if Alba’s role isn’t huge — and with so many other big actors (Stiller, DeNiro, Wilson) already set, it may not be — the move is a shrewd bit of casting for Universal. The franchise needs to rope in young men, and with the movie’s promise of babies and family — not always said demo’s main interest — it could use a Maxim-esque presence.

The WME-repped Alba, incidentally, is set to star in the Robert Rodriguez thriller “Machete” for Sony as well as Garry Marshall’s romantic comedy “Valentine’s Day” for New Line. Both are also movies that could — and need to — bring in the boys. That’s what she does.

Battle for Barbarella

mce_src=SIENNA MILLER, JESSICA ALBA and KATHERINE HEIGL are all in the running to be the new Barbarella.

The threesome are the current favourites with the film’s producers to step into the famous silver boots for the role of the space-age sex siren made famous by JANE FONDA in the 1968 classic.

A film insider said: “The script is underway and JOHN CARPENTER is set to direct so it’s all about finding the new Barbarella.

“This will be a huge movie and with Barbarella such a strong female character, half the leading ladies in Hollywood will want this role.

“Sienna, Jessica and Katherine are probably top of the list but others have not been ruled out.

“Whoever gets it is going to have to look super-hot in not very much clothing!”

Adapting French Comic ‘The Insiders’ To Film?

picture-21Is it not enough that Jessica Alba has already played iconic comic book characters in “Fantastic Four” and “Sin City“? Apparently not, as rumors swirl today about her involvement with yet another paneled page property.

ICv2 is reporting that Alba has acquired the screen rights to a French comic book series titled “The Insiders.” The news originated from “various French language Websites,” which also pegs Alba’s “Sin City” director Robert Rodriguez as her partner in securing the comic’s film rights.

“The Insiders” first debuted in 2002 from Jean-Claude Bartoll and Renaud Garreta, yielding seven volumes of the series in France with an eighth scheduled for this October. In the same month, Americans will also see the first volume of “The Insiders” titled Chechen Guerilla — perhaps a move to familiarize stateside audiences with Alba’s upcoming character.

Should the rumors pan out, Alba would play Najah Cruz, a Columbian woman with “the weapons expertise and combat skills of a James Bond.” In the series, Cruz is tasked with infiltrating a crime syndicate on behalf of the United States government, where she ultimately works her way into becoming the lead criminal’s body guard.

Given the long delays in “Sin City 2” and reports that a “Fantastic Four” reboot is in the works sans the original cast, Alba could be without a comic book franchise to call her own — which is why turning to “The Insiders” could be a strong move for an actress looking to stick with the genre.

On top of that, Alba’s first high-profile gig came in the form of “Dark Angel,” a James Cameron-produced television series where she played a hard-as-nails soldier of the same ilk as Najah Cruz. Truly, starring in “The Insiders” would be a return to form for the young actress.

Fantastic Four is Getting the Boot…a Reboot that is

IESB’s has heard word around town is Fantastic Four over at 20th Century Fox is gearing up for a reboot.

With Daredevil already getting the once over and Planet of the Apes also in the running for a new start with a prequel in the works Fantastic Four is joining the reboot gang.

The two films previously released never really caught on with the fans and the studio is reportedly looking to completely retool, recast and recrew the franchise. This means no Tim Story, no Iaon, no Julian (thank the maker, he never sat well with me as Dr. Doom), no Chris, no Chiklis and no Jessica.

The first Fantastic Four in 2005 pulled in over $330 million worldwide and the second film, Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer, opened in 2007 with a total box office take of $290 million. Both made money and were commercial successes but the reviews were lackluster and the fan reaction was mediocre.

The franchise is looking to be “less bubble gum” this time round following the Iron Man template, which was a complete success in reviews and box office take but a bit darker when it came to its superhero. Iron Man was in no way as dark as The Dark Knight but was funny, action-y as well as a bit on the serious side.

If the first 2 installments were so successful, why not just change the direction rather than the cast?
