Jessica Alba, attended the First West Coast FABB Fashion and Beauty Blog Conference, hosted by Lucky Magazine in Santa Monica on April 30, 2012 to talk about the Honest Company.  Click on the previews above to view more photos.

Jessica Alba might be known best as a Hollywood A-lister, but the actress spends a ton of time these days sourcing good-for-the-earth/good-for-your-baby products to go in her online shop, The Honest Company. Today at FABB, Alba and her business partner, Christopher Gavigan, sat down with Lucky EIC Brandon Holley to discuss everything from eco aesthetics to…well…poop:

  • On the need for nice-looking, earth-friendly products: “Why do the organic things have to be brown or beige or oatmeal? Why can’t it be cute?”
  • On the importance of petroleum-free diapers (besides the obvious ones): “If your baby is like mine and decides to eat her diaper, our diapers won’t hurt her.”
  • On the power of bloggers: “People who used to want to invest in wall street now want to invest in people like you. Investing in good ideas and investing in women is important today.”
  • On balancing work and family: “I had two hours of sleep last night. Thank god for makeup. I wish there were 48 hours in a day and two of me. I always feel like I compromise.”

Jessica Alba to Release Her First Book ‘The Honest Life’ next year

Jessica Alba is expanding her empire by releasing her first book ‘The Honest Life’ next year, that will offer tips on how to create a non-toxic home, from design tips to some of Alba’s favorite family recipes. This will also mean an opportunity to meet her if she goes on a book tour which hopefully also includes Europe.  Read the article from People below:

Jessica Alba: actress, wife, mother, and now, author!

Alba, 30, will release The Honest Life, a how-to handbook based on her mission of creating a natural, non-toxic life for her family.

“It’s totally crazy but amazing,” Alba tells PEOPLE of her book news, adding of her lifestyle, “I’m not extreme. This book is for people who are in the middle but want to create a healthier life, like me.”

The actress recently launched her first business, The Honest Company, with business partner and co-author Christopher Gavigan. And her book will detail her life as a mother and entrepreneur, seeking to give her children, Honor, 3 and Haven, 7 months, a better and safer start in life.

The Honest Life will offer tips on how to create a non-toxic home, from design tips to some of Alba’s favorite family recipes. “Honor’s favorite meatball recipe will be in there,” says her mom.

“And I always hide flax seeds in everything,” she explains, keeping it healthy but still tasty for her two girls. The book will also include beauty tips including “homemade” treatments to incorporate into your routine. Among them: simple, fun DIY family projects (Alba and husband Cash Warren refinished furniture for daughter Haven’s room), tips on making sure your home is filled with only the purest of materials and inexpensive ways to find your own authentic style.

“It will be easy and fun and I want it to be really colorful,” says Alba. “I’m a crazy foodie. I love doing projects with my kids. Everything in this book will be something meaningful that I’ve incorporated into our lives. I wanted some kind of handbook with all the information I was consuming so I could apply it in a practical way.”

The Honest Life will be published in early 2013 by Rodale.

Jessica Alba and her 2 girls cover Parenting’s april issue

The mom of two opens up in Parenting’s first-ever “Natural” issue (April, on stands now) about the “Aha” moment that led her to launch the Honest Company (Honest.com), getting back her pre-baby body, the kind of mother she’s becoming, and how she’s finally learned to deal with paparazzi.  Interview highlights include:
  • On explaining the press to her kids: “When the paparazzi follow us, and [Honor] asks me what they’re doing, I tell her, ‘They’re just taking pictures, isn’t that silly?’ I don’t want her to have anxiety, so I tell her they do that to everyone, not just our family.”
  • On her parenting style: “I’m the disciplinarian. I think it’s because I was kind of a naughty kid myself: I’d push my parents’ buttons and test them to see how much I could get away with.”
  • On what matters most: “Before I had kids, I was always so focused on my career…Nothing else really matters to me [now] aside from my children and their well-being.
  • On what inspired her to launch the Honest Company (Honest.com), and create baby products that are as good to look at as they are for the earth: “Once I had bought brown diapers, telling myself, ‘You know what, they’re not cute, but they’re all-natural.’ I was resigned to the fact that anything healthy wasn’t going to be attractive.
